A SCARY DESCENT...

Finstall Scouts, Bromsgrove, were as lucky with the weather in September.
"...probably the best Scout outing I've been on... a nice cold walk to the top of Snowdon and a quite scary descent with a sheer drop on each side." Robert
"...the views from the top were incredible..." George
"...the first night was a bit scary as it was my first night away with the Scouts ...a long, hard way up Snowdon but it was all worth it for that view from the top!" Elliot
"I liked the climbing best!" Matthew
The other Matthew thought "...The sandwiches were boring ham and cheese ...but the upper floor had good showers..."
But Chris, it seems, was becoming a connoisseur of local cuisine..
"We stopped at the chip shop in Llangollen on the way there... On Saturday we climbed Snowdon... ...the views from the top were excellent but the cafe was closed... ...we stopped in Beddgelert for an ice cream - they were so good we went back there again on Sunday before returning home."

FROM THE WARDEN...

"June's working weekend was a great success, thanks to the hard working team who turned up. The most spectacular event was the total refurbishment of the downstairs loo, complete with washbasin and tiled floor! (It has since been rumoured this once little-used hideaway is now so sought after that measures are being taken to limit it's use)

The dining room and bedrooms were redecorated, classroom repaired and wood-treated, bedroom curtains specially made and hung (they fit!), and even lampshades put up (..whatever next?)

Clean blankets, pillow slips and mattress covers completed the facelift, and by the time we'd finished the place looked fantastic! As for the water supply, the battle against the elements continues. After heavy rain one can only marvel at the sheer force of water descending Cwm Gelli Iago, and attacking our system. But it's all part of the challenge...

Now a couple of grumbles.. Leaders please check your Check List before leaving! Nothing worse than leaving lights on and the odd window open (hint hint) And whoopee! ..we now have a wheelie bin! ..sounds incredible on the bumpy track to the gate. Please bag rubbish securely first (anti maggot invasion tactic) and remember that refuse is collected on Friday morning from 7am, so if you're there for the week rubbish must be taken to the roadside on Thursday evening! Weekenders too can leave the wheelie there, to be brought back up by the next group.

And in the kitchen... before you leave please make sure that the cutlery tray is replaced in the cupboard marked "Cutlery", and that all pans and utensils are returned to their proper places (also cunningly labelled), so that the next group can actually find them!

But finally, thank you to all those leaders whose groups take pride in leaving the Centre clean and tidy, and who appreciate that encouraging youngsters to take responsibility for this aspect can be just as important as getting them up the hills."

A REMINDER...

Don't forget the pre-Christmas club meet, 8th-10th December. All are welcome, there'll be Xmas pud and brandy sauce (lots), and mincepies too. A good December day out, then back to the toe-toasting fireside...
